My birthday...

Another year... but as Jack said "You'll always be younger than daddy, right?" Right you are, Jacklet.
Lazed in bed a little extra this morning then went to Jaec's this morning for coffee and croissant.
Swimming lessons with Jacklet.
Off to gardening store where we smelled tomato plants- what a great smell.
Off to Oak Knoll for a nice stroll. Boy, does that Jack have a lot to say.
Lunch with Sarah.
Visited Fine Farm- couldn't resist buying a 9 pack of tomato plants.
Home for some baseball.
Quick spaghetti dinner.
A lot of work.
Carvel ice cream cake with my parents.
Bedtime routine with kids.
More work.
Now an early bedtime.
What could be bad?

To start blogging again then to remind everyone that my birthday is coming up.

Well...

I have been abysmal about updating this so I'm sure the few readers that I had are now long gone. I've been working over-overtime lately but am continuing to press on. I'm leaving with the kids for Florida on the weekend so I'm sure I won't update until after I get back but I will try to update on a regular basis after I get back- hopefully with pictures too.
I did want to share a story about someone that I ran with at Bowdoin and went to Ecuador with, Emily Levan. Nightly News ran a story about her and her daughter who has leukemia. Jim and I went to college with both Brad and Emily. We have been touched by childhood cancer way too much this year- anything any of you can do to help support children and families with this illness and to prevent others from having to go through this would we wonderful.

Life before the internet...

I am constantly thankful that I am practicing medicine in the year 2008. I don't know what I would do without being able to look up studies, medication doses, etc on a very frequent basis. I use it for so much else too- patient handouts, images to show patients what an ear infection looks like, etc. Today, I used it for something else. In igoogle, I added a translation link where I saw someone today in Arabic via typing in my question in English and it spitting it out in Arabic. Honestly, I couldn't get through my day without it. Thanks, Al Gore- too bad he's not running for president.

My reading habits...

Emma has been devouring books lately. It's crazy how many books she is reading and how much she is enjoying them. The other day she completed one that I was told that I absolutely must read. Mostly Em has been reading some pretty great literature so I'm not sure how she decided this was the book that was best for me. But, I put down this really great work of fiction (The Girls) even though I should be reading the book for book club (Jewel by Bret Lott) to read this




Surprisingly, it's not as bad as it looks. I might need to read the rest of the series.

Calling all readers...

OK... so our family has some major dental issues. Em has had 2 crowns and 1 extraction and isn't even done first grade. She was born with minimal enamel on her teeth and it looks like will be visiting the dentist regularly for the rest of her life. And poor Jack had to have a cavity filled the other day in his front teeth- he was a super trooper and handled it great. Now, I know it's the dentist's job to encourage good oral hygiene but she always seems so surprised that we don't floss our kids daily. We brush the kids' teeth at least daily- maybe we don't do it long enough but definitely a daily tooth brushing family. Try to do twice a day. And now are trying to be a daily flossing family. Do you all (whoever you all might be) really floss your kids' teeth every day?

Not to rub it in or anything....
